Top 10 BBQs on a Budget!

Looking for a new BBQ? We have compiled a quick list of recommendations, based on consumer reports and professional reviews.
If you are looking to purchase a new grill in this price range (based on manufacturer’s suggested retail price) then these are the ones you should be looking at. These Gas Grills put out plenty of heat, are built solid and have all the versatility you want. This quick review of Gas Grills should help you get started.

1. Weber Genesis E-330
Simply put the Weber Genesis line of grills are the best you can buy in this price range and beyond. The list price is $949USD but you can typically find it for around $800USD. What you get with the E-330 is a three burner grill (available in three colors), a 12,000 BTU side burner, and a 10,000 BTU internally mounted sear burner. Other models in this series come without the side burner or the sear burner. You decide which configuration works for you and buy only what you need.

2. Broil King Baron 5-Burner 540-S
This is a big grill and as I always recommend, but the grill that fits your needs. This one will grill enough for a dozen people and if that is the need, then this is an excellent choice. If not, look for something smaller, like the Broil King Baron 440 which is $200USD less. It should also be noted that aside from the underpowered side burner, this grill has no extras. If the size is right, I would suggest getting the Baron 590 which has a full rotisserie system, expanding the versatility of the grill.

3. Napoleon Prestige P500
This is a basic, relatively expensive gas grill similar in many ways to the Weber Genesis. Manufactured in Canada by Napoleon this is a high quality grill that is built to last and cook with a high, even heat. What you don’t get with this grill is a lot of extras (unless you want to pay for them), but you do get a grill that you can count on due to superior engineering and solid components. If you are willing to sacrifice fancy for quality then this is definitely a gas grill to look at.

4. Saber Cast 500 P
Looking for a reliable gas grill that is easy to use? This just might be the perfect grill. Forget all the talk about the infrared cooking system and the 24,000 BTUs under 500 square inches of primary grilling space. What makes this grill one of the best for the price is that it heats quickly, gets very hot, and cooks efficiently. Whether you are a serious griller or a first time outdoor cooking, the Saber Grills, don’t flare-ups and actually reduce the chance of burning food. Yes, there is a lot of science and innovation behind the design, but that doesn’t really matter. This is a basic grill for a basic price, but an excellent value.

5. Napoleon Mirage Gas Grill Model# M485RB
Napoleon gas grills are amongst the best you can buy, but they tend to be expensive. The Mirage line is Napoleon’s more affordable collection of gas grills, and this one, the M485RB, is the most basic and least expensive yet it still lists for nearly $900USD. That makes it more expensive than comparable Weber or Broil-King grills. This gas grill is a 3-burner unit with an infrared rotisserie burner (but the rotisserie kit is extra but a dealer might cut you a deal).

6. The Holland Grill Vintage Model# BH421AG8
New for 2014 is the Holland Vintage gas grill. This is the least expensive of the Holland Grills, with a list price around $800USD. Like all Holland Grills, the Maverick has a single cast iron burner under a metal deflector plate that separates the fire from the cooking chamber. Critics will say that this is just a large metal oven, but fans of this grill (which there are many) will say that this is one of the most versatile gas grills on the market and that it will never have a flare-up.

7. Weber Genesis S-330
Simply put the Weber Genesis line of grills are the best you can buy in this price range and beyond. The list price is $1,099USD but you can typically find it for around $950USD. What you get with the S-330 is a three burner grill, a 12,000 BTU side burner, and a 10,000 BTU internally mounted sear burner. Other models in this series come without the side burner or the sear burner. You decide which configuration works for you and buy only what you need.

8. Vermont Castings 4-Burner VCS322SSP
This is a heavy grill with heavy cast iron and stainless steel body parts. The 40,500 BTU output from three stainless steel burners is more than enough to heat the nearly 440 square inches of primary grilling area. Recently construction of the Vermont Castings grills has been moved from China to the United States. The materials used are excellent and the construction is definitely superior to the mass market grills. Look to spend around $1,200USD for this gas grill. an optional side burner can be added either a standard gas burner or infrared sear burner.

9. Ultra Chef U405 Gas Grill
The Ultra Chef line from Napoleon is their entry level grills. Available in a number of configurations and mountings, this version, the U405 is their basic model. This is a no frills grill that has excellent heat output and cooking characteristics. The porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates hold heat and give you great contact with food for searing and high temperature cooking. With the 3-burner design and highly adjustable heat output this grill can do all your basic grilling tasks with ease. Since this grill is made by Napoleon (in Canada) it has a lot to back it up.

10. Kitchenaid 30-Inch 4-Burner Gas Grill Model# 720-0745B
This is a big, shiny, gas grill with the KitchenAid name stamped right in the middle of the lid. For around $600USD this 4-burner grill has a good side burner and a lot of shiny albeit low grade stainless steel up front. While not entire made of this type of stainless, this grill will certainly catch the eye.
